How to Choose Blank Patches Fabric?
Generally speaking, any fabric that could be pierced by an embroidery needle can be used for embroidery. There are infinite possibilities for fabrics. Unless specified by customers, normally we would prefer to suggest the most suitable ones, which could be done with better quality, nicer designs and reasonable prices. Our rich experience and super sewing technologies are our strength for the fabric.
Polyester Blend Twill
Polyester blend twill is the most commonly used fabric. Most of the embroidered patches are made with this due to its smooth twill and moderate thickness.
Velvet
Velvet is generally used for high-end bullion patches. Though customers sometimes prefer to use this velvet, we did not suggest as it is quite sticky-dust.
Canvas
Canvas is normally used for those patches which need to be done with frayed or washed effect. It is suitable for those patches with higher standard.
Leather
Leather is normally used for high-end clothing. The quality is not easy to be controlled during the embroidery process due to its feature, so it has been seldom used.
Microfibre Leather
Microfibre leather has a high-end and noble feature but it is much more expensive than the other fabrics. With the same disadvantage as the leather, it is not so popular.
Woven Damask
Woven Damask could be shown with a much higher quality on clothing. It is relatively with a higher cost but as the fabric is special, so customers would like to use.
Felt
Felt is the 2nd most commonly used fabric except polyester blend Twill. It could be combined with other fabrics and most of the customers prefer to use this.
Nylon
Nylon is not particularly popular as it is mainly used for bullion patches. With similar feeling like velvet, it is easy for embroidery and have many colors available.
Backing Selection
There are many backing options when you are customizing your own custom patches. And customers need to fully understand each of the backing options as each represents a different purpose. You need to know the most ideal backing material, the best quality of the clothing, and the length of time the patch backing will last to determine what you really need to proceed for your order.
Iron-On Backing
Iron-on backing is also called heatseal backing. Patches could be easily seated on clothing by using an iron, and this backing is perfect for ceremonial and casual wear which has been commonly used.
Adhesive Backing
Adhesive backing can be easily removable, versatile but less permanent than other backings as back is pressed with glue. It is convenient and quite popular with customers for single event.
Iron-On With Rope
Iron-on with rope backing offers an extra rope on iron-on backing, which could be used for hanging. If the fabric or clothing is quite light, then iron-on with rope backing would be quite suitable.
Non-Woven Backing
Non-woven backing has a non-woven fabric at the back. This could help to make the soft fabric a little bit stiffer. Using this backing the embroidery would be much easier to be made.
Self Fabric Backing
Self-fabric Backing adds a self-fabric at the back, which could make both sides done with embroidery. The effect is quite nice and also it is a good way to hide the back stitching.
Plain Cotton with Pins
Plain cotton at the back could hide the stitching well, and pins with butterfly clutches could easily fix the patches to the clothing. The said backing is mainly used on bullion patches.

Plain cotton backing has almost the same effect as plain cotton with pins. Though pins are removed, it could also hide the stitching well. This backing is normally used for high-end clothing.
Thin Plastic Backing
Plastic backing gives the patch rigidity and helps it keep its shape over the years. This backing can be used on patches of every shape and size and is thin enough to allow you to sew your patch onto fabric.
Velcro Hook Backing
Velcro hook backing is often used for military patches and is popular among law enforcement branches. The backing is composed of tiny hooks that allows you to attach the patch to a soft backing for a secure connection.

Velcro Pair Backing

No backing should be the most commonly used one. Patches with no backings are flexible and lightweight. And the best time to order is to sew them to clothing or other types of fabrics.

Merrow Border
Merrowed Border adds a touch of elegance to the patches. It has been used a lot as it is a wonderful option for patches that are shaped into a circle, rectangle, square or triangle. It gives your patch durability.
Embroidery Border
Embroidery Border offers a unified effect for the patch as the thread used is the same as the embroidery. Compared with the merrowed border, this border has a better quality but it cost a little bit more.
Fabric Border
Fabric border has an extra fabric on the border which offers an alternate option for customers. With the fabric border customers could choose either to sew the patches on clothing or iron the patches on clothing.
Frayed Edge
Frayed edge offers a special effect for the patches. A brushing or washing on the edge makes the edge to be quite soft and nice-looking. Disadvantage is that this edge is a little bit more expensive than the other options.
No Border
No border patches are mainly for customer who want to make embroidery border by themselves or do not want any border. Such patch would not be done with full embroidery and a space for at least 3~5mm would be left.
