Generally speaking, any fabric that could be pierced by an embroidery needle can be used for embroidery. There are infinite possibilities for fabrics. Unless specified by customers, normally we would prefer to suggest the most suitable ones, which could be done with better quality, nicer designs and reasonable prices. Canvas is normally used for those patches which need to be done with frayed or washed effect. It is suitable for those patches with higher standard.
Leather is normally used for high-end clothing. The quality is not easy to be controlled during the embroidery process due to its feature, so it has been seldom used.
Woven Damask could be shown with a much higher quality on clothing. It is relatively with a higher cost but as the fabric is special, so customers would like to use.
Felt is the 2nd most commonly used fabric except polyester blend Twill. It could be combined with other fabrics and most of the customers prefer to use this.

Iron-on backing is also called heatseal backing. Patches could be easily seated on clothing by using an iron, and this backing is perfect for ceremonial and casual wear which has been commonly used.
Self-fabric Backing adds a self-fabric at the back, which could make both sides done with embroidery. The effect is quite nice and also it is a good way to hide the back stitching.

Frayed edge offers a special effect for the patches. A brushing or washing on the edge makes the edge to be quite soft and nice-looking. Disadvantage is that this edge is a little bit more expensive than the other options.
No border patches are mainly for customer who want to make embroidery border by themselves or do not want any border. Such patch would not be done with full embroidery and a space for at least 3~5mm would be left.
